Aunt/uncle - niece/nephew relationship test

The aunt/uncle - niece/nephew test conducted by the DNA Center determines whether there is a biological (genetic) relationship between the child and the alleged aunt or uncle (usually the sibling of the alleged father). This test establishes whether the tested aunt or uncle's sibling is the biological parent of the child.

Sample collection process

Sample collection is simple and does not require a laboratory visit. Upon ordering the test, the DNA Center sends a specialized sample collection kit via mail. Samples can be collected conveniently at home using a cheek swab and then returned to the DNA Center by mail or delivered in person to the clinic.

Steps for sample collection:

• Use the provided swab to gently rub the inside of the cheek (buccal mucosa), rotating the swab several times to collect cells.
• Place the swabs into the labeled sample envelope as per the instructions.
• Return the samples, along with the completed data form and proof of payment, to the DNA Center by regular or priority mail to the provided address. Alternatively, samples can be delivered in person to our office.

What does the sample collection kit include?

• Sampling tools for the number of participants in the test.
• One pre-labeled sample envelope per participant.
• A data form to be completed, signed, and returned with the samples. This form should include details such as the type of test requested, participant information (name or alias, and optionally date of birth), the date of sample collection, and instructions on how and where the results should be sent (email or postal address). It should also include the payer's name and address for invoicing purposes.
• Detailed instructions for the process (guidance on sample collection and form completion, the return address, and payment information).
• A yellow postal check if postal payment is chosen.

Complexity of analysis

Due to the complexity of aunt/uncle relationship testing, the results may not always be as definitive as parent-child tests, such as paternity tests. In some cases, additional participants may need to be included to provide conclusive results. If additional participants cannot be involved and the test does not yield a result, the full amount paid will be refunded, ensuring no financial loss to the client.

When will the results be ready?

The analysis for the aunt/uncle - niece/nephew test typically takes 12–14 days. Results are sent to the client by mail and/or email, depending on their preference.
