Special DNA Sample

Not suitable for testing:

• hair (without root),
• body hair,
• clothing,
• pacifier,
• baby tooth

Possible sample types:

• blood – whole blood, blood spot on filter paper, blood on a glucose test strip;
• organ or tissue samples, biopsy material – fresh or frozen;
• ear secretion – cotton swab after cleaning the outer ear canal (preferably 2 pieces);
• cut fingernails (minimum 5–6 pieces);
• razor – multi-blade (disposable or replaceable head) preferred;
• electric razor debris;
• toothbrush – dry condition, not washed;
• chewing gum – sugar-free preferred (dried, packaged so it does not stick, e.g. in a cleaned medicine box or Tic Tac container);
• drinking container, glass, straw – plastic/paper (or thick glass, securely packaged – we are not responsible for damage during transport);
• cutlery – preferably after consuming non-sweet food – dry, not washed;
• mucus, nasal discharge – paper or textile tissue, in dry condition;
• histological material embedded in paraffin or other medium – requires pre-testing and preparation.

If you are unsure, please request prior information regarding the sample!

The laboratory analysis time for special samples is approximately 14 days. This is added to the analysis time of the originally requested test, as the actual testing can only begin after the special sample has been processed (e.g. paternity testing from a special sample takes approximately 3 weeks).

If the analysis of the special sample shows that it does not contain testable DNA, we will promptly inform the client, who can then decide to:

• provide a new sample (in which case the analysis fee for the new sample must be paid), or
• withdraw from the test (in which case the amount paid will be refunded minus the cost of the sample analysis).
